BioEnergy: What Is It?

"BioEnergy" is a term used to describe energy derived from the burning of biofuels. Biofuels, including biodiesel, are fuels derived from recently living organisms and their byproducts. This includes plant matter, not limited to vegetable oil, waste grease, and wood.

Energy Sources
Popular forms of bioenergy fuels include biodiesel, bioethanol, biooil, and wood pellets. In addition, bioenergy plants burn forestry by-products, such as wood, offcuts to generate electricity.

Why Use It
BioEnergy is cleaner for the environment and better for health than fossil-based fuels. It is also a renewable commodity and can be produced domestically on both a small and large scale.
